To start off September, we bought 3 Katahdin ewes. These are hair sheep, since I am very allergic to wool, and we needed animals to keep the brush and field grass low. Later in the month, Randy bought a nice looking ram, to build up our young herd. The taste of a boneless leg of lamb, prepared with my Mediterranean Blend, and grilled has my mouth watering already. But I will have to wait until late Spring, when and if one of them drops a young ram.
Except for a brief rain at the end of July and going into August, it is still very dry. Grass is dying and the ground is cracking. Without a generous rain here and there, it will be very expensive to flood our crawfish ponds for the season, which begins right after Thanksgiving.

I found a canning buddy. So together we are putting up sauces using my Gourmet Blend and Fajita Blend, vegetables, and vegetable medleys using my Gourmet Blend. I invested in a pressure canner, to put up meats, and butter, if I can find some time. Being a business woman, in addition to being a wife, the main cook, maid, and tending to the livestock leaves me with limited time to do anything else. Except for the Sabbath, when I take full advantage of my Heavenly Father’s command to rest.
With the help of friends, we were able to process some of our hens and roosters. Chicken noodle soup, chicken broth, gumbo, and stew is on my agenda for the next couple of months. Some will be cooked with my Original Carmalete’s Seasoning, while others will be prepared with my Poultry Blend, Organic Original Blend, and possibly my Gourmet Blend.
