February 2023

Well it has been consistently raining since the last week of January and still coming down.  Tornadic winds and hail have accompanied a few of these rain storms.  Our yard began looking like small lakes here and there, especially near the hen yard and sheep enclosures, so we had sand delivered and have been busy moving it to low areas.

Crawfishing season is nothing as it was prior to COVID.  More  farms, more predators, higher cost of supplies, and less demand is not good for us farmers.  Restaurants are charging astronomical prices for boiled crawfish, but the harvester as usual is cheated.

Thursday after Randy crawfished, we ate lunch, and fed all the animals, we headed to Chicot State Park for the weekend. Spent the night and real early Friday morning Randy and I came back home so he could finish the week and I could tend to office work, livestock, and lunch before staying away for the weekend.

Our minds are always looking for ways to expand all areas of our businesses so while camping, we are looking for newer hens to add to our flock.  Towards the end of February we should have new lambs. Three of our Katahdins are round with young ones.  We are praying for easy and quick deliveries not during freezing temperatures or exceedingly wet conditions.  And we are receiving orders for Great Pyrenees puppies, so we will be breeding Thibbie again to Boudreaux.  These are the large white guardian dogs.
