September 2021

Feeling healthy once again, but needing a nap, each day, I was back to restocking stores, livestock care, and last but most important being a wife and homemaker.

Hurricane Ida made landfall, causing heavy destruction to South Louisiana and some of the best fishing places around.  We opened our home to acquaintances living in New Orleans, who had structural damages as well as no water or electricity.  They came bearing gifts from their refrigerators.  We were able to provide freezer space for what they would have lost had it remained in their home.  While here, they cooked and provided healthy organic desserts, tasty side dishes, and helped with the dishes and cleaning up after meals.  By the end of the week, they returned home to inspect damage and take control; they had electricity and water.  The friend who had accompanied this couple ended up having to stay with them for a week.

Having been without a few teeth and not being able to chew anything really solid for the past 2 months because of a broken tooth and a lost new bridge (by a dental assistant), I finally received my new bridge to the tune of $6,755. OUCH!!!!

Having sold 6 of our male goats, and 6 of our females, we were still left with 10, so Randy took them to the sale barn.  Hoping for a great price, and knowing that farmers in the area were looking to increase their herds, especially from the loss from last year’s hurricanes, we were delighted that the Almighty answered our prayers with a handsome amount.  Their absence enabled us to do more traveling and the dogs had chickens to guard, as well as us.

So, the 19th – 24th, we took to the road and stopped in West Monroe.  In advance, I cooked and served an eggplant spaghetti sauce in spaghetti squash accompanied by a parsley salad and a regular salad.  Dessert followed, brownies with my secret ingredient.

After 3 days, we headed to Oklahoma to meet (face to face) a lady I met through FaceBook.  We became friends from the start.  She and her family of three, like us, eat according to the Torah and follow the Father’s eating plan described in Deuteronomy.  She achieved her Master Herbalist degree and makes Organic tinctures and salves.  We had a great visit, met other Sabbath keepers, and hopefully made lasting friends.  I went home with Mullein tincture, Comfrey salve, Dandelion salve, and Echinacea tincture, which I had ordered ahead of time.  She in turn received my Mediterranean blend, Fajita blend, and Taco blend, which she had ordered.

Being used to nice lush green acreage and swollen bayous, rivers, and lakes down here in Central Louisiana it was dry and barren in Oklahoma and the west side of Arkansas.  We had received news that it was still raining, sometimes up to 7 inches at a time, back home.

We returned home late Sunday night and were greeted by our two guardian dogs Thibbie (Pyranees) and Boudreaux (Pyranees/Achbash).  They were so excited to have us home.
